FIREFLIES FESTIVAL - BHANDARDARA (Batch-1: 25 & 26 May 19)
The Western Ghats also known as Sahyadri is a mountain range that covers an area of 140,000 km² in a stretch of 1,600 km parallel to the western coast of the Indian peninsula. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the eight “hottest hotspots” of biological diversity in the world. It contains a large proportion of the country’s flora and fauna; many of which are only found in India and nowhere else in the world.
Bhandardara, a hill station nestled in the Sahyadri ranges, has all the nature’s blessings a place can get. The lush greenery, the humble waterfalls and surrounded by high mountains makes for the perfect holiday spot for city dwellers. Bhandardara is 185 km. from Pune and is easily accessible through roadways. This little village is packed with so many attractions coupled with the serenity of the nature that it makes for an adventurous weekend to run away from the hustle and bustle of the cities.
Fireflies are basically insects which display the bio-luminescence character!! They actually throw out fluorescent green light from the body to attract their mate. This phenomenon of natural lighting is so mesmerizing that at times one can experience thousands of fireflies flashing the light which is one of the best natural sights to behold. We have happily coupled this beautiful experience with camping.
Ratangad Fort is one of the most beautiful architectures to witness in the region and the best way to reach the fort is via trekking through the jungle trails. Ratangad Ratan means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is indeed a jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. It is located in the district of Ahmednagar and is located about 4255 feet above sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain range surrounded by great mountains of Kulang, Alang, Kalsubai, Katrabai, Ajoba, and Ghanchakkar. Geographically Ratangad is at the banks of Bhandardara lake of Ahmednagar district. With views of the lake and highest mountains in Sahyadris looks very much lost in time.
